In the town of Machap Malacca there's a farm called Sim Koa Yen that is certified as an organic durian farm by the Agricultural authorities. This farm has been around for decades and the durian trees are grown from seeds, unlike the normal ones grown by bud-grafting. Indeed, the trees are not given incesticides and are grown using bio-fertilisers the farmers formulate themselves. Today this farm has over 29 durian clones and organizes durian tours or "feasting" trips with prior bookings during harvesting seasons. Truly organic durians are hard to grow as they need special attention throughout its lifespan. Hence, farms such as this are hard to come by.The fruits are unique in taste and texture, and durian fans can tell the difference, such as no sore throat after-taste. In fact, even squirrels know the wholesomeness of organic durians as they can sense the absence of insecticides. This adds another farmer's concern when cultivating such durians. As you can see in the video, the durian trees grow amongst the farm's rubber and other trees.
