Three weeks after serving as Dewan Rakyat Speaker, Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof has already taken steps in reforming Parliament.
The Dewan Rakyat Speaker had a candid talk with The Star on various parliamentary reforms he is looking at introducing, including establishing select committees and a Prime Minister’s Question Time, having a minimum of a 100 days of Dewan Rakyat sittings, Parliamentary Caucasus, beefing up research facilities for lawmakers and restoring the Parliamentary Service Act 1963.
Mohamad Ariff also wants to reduce the Parliamentary time and ensure better quality debates, and is advocating for the Opposition to have a “shadow Cabinet”.
