A political analyst said Najib Abdul Razak's refusal to show remorse for an offense that landed him in prison would lead to the government being blamed for their role in the pardon process.
Wong Chin Huat said the public would question Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's commitment to reform following the announcement of the decision by the Pardon Board.
"Whatever the justifications or explanations from the government, unless this is matched by the willingness of Najib to show remorse and undertake redemption, people will blame the government.,' he said
Earlier the Pardon Board halved Najib's prison sentence from 12 to 6 years and reduced his fine from RM210 million to RM50 million.
