Yesterday's election in Thailand saw a surprising victory for the opposition, as parties allied with the military were defeated.

This marks a significant shift away from nearly a decade of conservative, army-backed rule.

The liberal Move Forward party and the populist Pheu Thai Party emerged as the clear winners with 99 percent of votes counted.
