Militants who are believed to be members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) stormed the Malagakit Elementary School in the town of Pigcawayan on the island of Mindanao.
It is uncertain whether any civillians including children were taken hostage due to conflicting reports. The Philippine military told reporters that the situation has been resolved and that the gunmen have withdrawn.
