The arrest of Bandar Tun Razak Umno division chief Rizalman Mokhtar earlier this week was initiated by MACC, according to a police source.
A high-ranking police source told Malaysiakini that the police only got involved after MACC asked for the assistance of the men in blue.
Rizalman was nabbed along with 11 others at a karaoke centre in Kuala Lumpur in the wee hours of Monday.
Subsequent drug tests had found Rizalman and all others in his party tested positive for methamphetamine.
