Pulau Ketam is a small island off the coast of Klang. The name Pulau Ketam translated literally from Malay means "Crab Island". Easily accessible through the Port Klang jetty by ferry, Pulau Ketam is a charming village famous for its "floating houses"—wooden houses perched on long wooden stilts that, during a high tide, give the illusion that it is floating on water. It is a perfect place for anybody looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
The history of Pulau Ketam began almost a hundred years ago, when Pulau Ketam was simply an abandoned island frequented by fishermen looking for crabs. The fishermen built houses to take shelter in during their trips to the island, eventually deciding to stay there permanently. The population steadily grew and experienced a sudden burst during the Japanese occupation where refugees escaped to the peaceful island.
