Bruguiera hainesii is locally known as "Eye of the Crocodile" (Berus Mata Buaya) and only about 200 of them left in the world (mainly in Indonesia and Malaysia). This mangrove tree species is very rare and listed as Critically Endangered plant by IUCN. In Sabah, two mature trees of Bruguiera hainesii are found on Manukan Island (Pulau Manukan) off Kota Kinabalu City. To see these rare trees, you only need to take a 10-minute boat ride and walk 1.5 KM of nature trail to Sunset Point in Manukan Island. I was lucky during my visit, because the trees were flowering and fruiting! This video will let you to have a good look of Bruguiera hainesii from different angles and distances.
