Rowan Blanchard is opening up on the constant comparisons to former ‘Disney’ stars that continue to haunt her to this day, and she’s making it know that she is NOT here for it.
So how bout instead of wondering if Rowan will become a Miley, Demi or Selena, how bout we just embrace her as simply being ROWAN?!
When she’s not singing or acting in front of an audience, 15-year-old Rowan Blanchard serves as an activist, feminist, and all-around badass and her recent guest interview on Janet Mock’s “Never Before” podcast was no exception.
Rowan opened up about learning even more about feminism via Tumblr, along with the non-stop comparisons that come with being a Disney Channel star. Although Rowan’s show Girl Meets World came to a close earlier this year, she revealed that she used to be compared to previous Disney alumns since she was 12 years old, saying QUOTE, “The first thing I would get asked is 'So are you going to be a Miley, a Selena, or a Demi?' The three options. And I was just like A) I'm twelve. And B) I'm so confused what that even means right now...”
Rowan added that people need to realize that her life experiences shouldn’t even compare to the others’, saying, “Having experienced just a small fraction of what they've experienced, it's incredibly scary to not only have to check in with yourself but have to check in to make sure your audience doesn't think you're crazy.”
But contrary to what some may think, shooting down comparisons does NOT have any regards to the type of persona Disney Channel stars carry after leaving the network. In fact, Rowan opened up about the reality of nobody really having life down, arguing that EVERYONE is problematic in their own ways. She said QUOTE, “With this culture on Twitter that has come along with 'I'm gonna educate you' has also come along with 'You're not doing it exactly how I want you to do it.’ And then there's that whole thing of 'You're my problematic fav,' 'You're so problematic.' And I'm like yeah, everybody's problematic, because everybody's just learning here.”
AMEN to that sister! It’s always refreshing to hear that everyone and their mothers are in the same boat when it comes to navigating that little thing called ‘life’, celebs included! But right now, I want to know all your thoughts about Rowan’s interview and your reaction to her take on Disney comparisons, so get to talking right down here in the comments, and after that, be sure to click right over here to check out all the best moments this weekend’s One Love Manchester benefit concert.
