Former finance minister Daim Zainuddin said that the decision by Umno to sack him did not matter.
He said Umno is an illegal society and did not have the right to sack them.
He was referring to Umno's failure to abide by its constitutional requirement to hold party elections by the stipulated extension deadline of April 19, after which critics say the party would automatically be rendered illegal.
Following the fiasco, Umno leaders received a lifeline from the Registar of Societies by way of a further extension – though it was not provided for the in Umno constitution – which has been panned as an abuse of the registrar's powers.
