Similar to the We Are the World tributes that were done for Africa and Haiti in the past, a large group of A-listers have joined forces on a song called “Hands” to benefit the Orlando shooting victims. And I’m not kidding when I say this is a mega collab. Selena Gomez, Jason Derulo, Meghan Trainor, Britney Spears, JLO, Gwen Stefani, Troye Sivan, Pink, Jussie Smollett, Adam Lambert, the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles and more are all featured on the track that was produced by Mark Ronson and written by Justin Tranter, BloodPop, and Julia Michaels. Have a listen:
One of the writer’s of the track, Justin Tranter, spoke about the motive behind crafting the song saying QUOTE - "The second I heard about this horrible tragedy where so many of my LGBTQ brothers and sisters lost their lives, I immediately got on a plane to Orlando to volunteer my help anyway I could. Putting this charity single together is just a way for me, and everyone involved to keep volunteering our help and promote peace and love in the world." The song is available on iTunes and all proceeds will be distributed by the Equality Florida Pulse Victims Fund, GLAAD, and the GLBT Community Center of Central Florida to benefit the victims and their families.
The CEO and President of GLAAD released a statement saying QUOTE - "The horrific attack on the LGBT community in Orlando has left us devastated, but not defeated. As we continue to mourn the crushing loss of 49 Americans, the majority of whom were Latino and whose lives were lost to hate, we stand resolved in paying tribute to their memory, supporting the victims and families, and working together to achieve full acceptance once and for all." The song is beautiful so be sure to jump on itunes and purchase it to show your support!
