Shawn Mendes Reveals He Auditioned For The Disney Channel

He may currently be in line to become the next John Mayer-musical-legend, but before all the fame and the No. 1 hits, Shawn Mendes was just your average kid with dreams to become an actor.
He recently opened up to news outlet i-D, and when asked what he wanted to be when he grew up, he was quick to respond back with a truth bomb, that after letting it resonate, isn’t all that shocking. He said QUOTE, “I wanted to be an actor, like, so so bad. I took acting classes, I auditioned for Disney, and then I realized how nervous I got with remembering lines.”
Thankfully, Shawn discovered his TRUE talent years later when he uploaded his first acoustic video to Vine, and, well, the rest is history. He added QUOTE, “Music kind of fell upon me when I was around 13. I started watching YouTube videos and singing and it became something that I was obsessed with. Next thing I know, I was fully in it.”
Well thank God for that! Shawn also revealed that although he knows singing is what he’s meant to do, sometimes nerves or off-days still get the best of him, but he’s learned to turn those times into his best days. He said QUOTE, “Sometimes, when I feel like I can't do something, I end up having my best day and making my best work. I'm like, ‘Come on Shawn, this is what you are meant to do!’ Other than that, perspective is the best thing in the world. I've just begun telling myself, live day-by-day, and when things get really hard, live hour-by-hour. It completely calms me down.”
Whatever the solution, we’re just glad every road led Shawn to where he is today, but hey, Disney or not, we’d gladly take him in any way, shape or form! And if his hits like “Mercy” and “Ain’t Nothin’ Holding Me Back” are the result of a few off days, then bring on the RAIN.
