Shawn is one of TIme magazine's most influential teens and that means he has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders. Shawn has come a long way in just 2 years. From opening for Taylor Swifts 1989 World Tour in 2015, to headlining his own world tour in 2017, we are sure shawn learned a lot on the way. He opened up about these past 2 crazy years in VMAN magazines issue 38.
He said before he went out to open for Taylor, she gave him one key piece of advice. “She told me not to be afraid to go out on stage, because everyone in the stadium came to have fun. This is not a judging contest, this is a concert!” And it seems like shawn has taken that advice and never looked back.
He does however have a keen ear for critisiscm, if there is one thing shawn is great at besides music, it’s listening to his fans. He told VMAN magazine “people need to give my fans a little bit more credit, if something’s not good, oh, they let me know.” what’s also great is that shawn manages to stay humble. Even after being named one of Time Magazines most influential teens, he said “i didn’t go into this to become that. I think it’s not about what you say, it’s about what you don’t say [...] during crazy times, I just hold back. People are so quick to jump on something or rip it apart. There’s so much negativity on social media, I don’t want to add to that.”
So what do you guys think of Shawn philosophy on fame and performing? Do you think more musicians to listen to audience feedback? Or stick to what they know best.
