I honestly don’t know who has sixteen friends who are willing to video group chat at the same time or how a phone screen can even fit 16 windows while still being able to see someone’s face, but I guess that’s beside the point.
In a blog post, Snapchat explained the reason for the new feature. They said QUOTE, “We designed Chat to feel less like texting and more like hanging out.” Users who decide to use the Group Video Chat feature will also be happy to know that now instead of being able to send your friend 10 second video snaps of yourself talking in a funny filtered voice, the same filters can be used for the entirety of your video chat!
But there’s really no guarantee that your friend will stay on the line for longer than a minute because the squeaky voices eventually becomes annoying.
Anyway, Snapchat also went on to reveal that Group Video Chat will be rolled out to Snapchatters all around the world starting this week. Now, aside from being able to video chat with ALL of your friends instead of just one-on-one video convos, Snapchat users will FINALLY be able to add user mentions to their snaps.
Something that’s been available on Instagram stories for a while now, but hey, better late than never, right Snapchat?
