The Klang Syariah court fined Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad RM2,900 for teaching Islam without the proper credentials at a surau in Kapar in 2011. Article 48(1)(e) of the Federal Constitution states that a member of Parliament will be disqualified should he or she be imprisoned more than a year or fined more than RM2,000.
