Youth activist Adam Adli Abdul Halim shed tears of joy after a three-member Court of Appeal bench today acquitted him of sedition. Justice Mohd Zawawi Mohd Salleh who headed the panel said there were several mis-directions by the Sessions Court requiring appellate intervention.
Adam was originally sentenced to 12 months jail at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court. However, on appeal to the High Court, this was reverted to a fine of RM5,000.
The prosecution had appealed the High Court sentence while Adam cross-appealed the conviction. Today's decision cannot be appealed as the case originated in the Sessions Court.
