This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. A swimming coach for more than 30 years, Bill Price has an enduring fascination with talent creation. In his talk, he seeks to debunk some misconceptions about talent creation and offer new insights into the journey of athletic development.

William J Price is the creator of the SportKid Project website (sportkidproject.com) where he writes frequently about issues facing youth sport development, physical literacy, and talent development.

He is also the Chief Information Officer at USSA Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur, and teaches sport science courses to Malaysian physical educators. He received his Masters degree from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania.

Price was a swimming coach for over 30 years. His last coaching position was with the Saluki Swim Club in Carbondale, Illinois. Prior to that he coached and taught in Florida and Vermont. He was also part of a United States Sports Academy project team in Malaysia and Brunei during the 1980s.

His coaching stints in Asia were focused on developing age group sport programs at both a state and national level. This work eventually led him to his Masters thesis “Sport Structure in the U.S.S.R.” in 1989.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
