he next cinematic universe to take over the big screens rises on June 9th, 2017 when The Mummy hits theaters. Starring Tom Cruise, the film is set to kick off the Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe, which will see the stories of familiar freaks like Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and the Wolfman interconnect for the first time.

The Mummy will introduce Sofia Boutella as Ahmanet, an ancient Egyptian princess who awakens in her desert crypt to bring millennia worth of destruction down on humanity. Russell Crowe will also make his debut as Jekyll/Hyde alongside fellow stars Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, and Courtney B. Vance. Alex Kurtzman, known for writing and producing Star Trek and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, directed the movie from a script by Christopher McQuarrie (Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, Edge of Tomorrow) and Jon Spaihts (Doctor Strange, Prometheus).
