In our opinion, the best way to visit Christ the Redeemer (Cristo Redentor) is to take the Corcovado Train (Trem do Corcovado) from the station at Cosme Velho to the summit of the Corcovado Mountain where you have otherworldly views Rio de Janeiro. The 3.8 kl line has been in operation since 1884 and the train trip is approximately 20 minutes (one way); however, the ticket you purchase provides you with a return journey. If you decide to take this route, as opposed to a tourist van or hiking, you'll have experienced the same trip as Albert Einstein and Diana, Princess of Wales.
Our video is hyperlapse (time-lapse) of the entire journey from Cosme Velho to Corcovado mountain and return from Corcovado mountain to Cosme Velho. You'll also notice we've added a few clips of Christ the Redeemer (Cristo Redentor) that we snapped from the top along with some stunning views of the city and beaches below.
