Three scientists have won the Nobel Prize for Physiology and Medicine for their findings on how cells sense and adapt to oxygen availability.
Sir Peter Ratcliffe of Oxford University worked alongside William Kaelin at the U.S. Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School and Gregg Semenza of Johns Hopkins University.
Medicine is the first of the Nobel Prizes given each year.
