ISTANBUL STREET FOOD | Massive MEZZE feast, ROASTED SHEEP'S HEAD | Delicious TURKISH FOOD
We're in Istanbul, Turkey! This is one of our favourite cities and we've spent 2 months eating our way around Istanbul to create this series. This 4 part series is about showing you the best Istanbul street food and hunting down local food and heritage Turkish shops and restaurants which are Istanbul icons. This is our third Istanbul food video. We start with tantuni, a popular Istanbul street food which comes from the southern town of Mersin. Made up of fried diced beef, parsley, onions and spice all wrapped up in a soft lavas- this is a tasty snack, simple but full of flavour. Next up we head into the laneways of Beyoglu to find a small stall outside a butcher shop where you can eat kelle tandir or roasted sheep's head. Onwards for pudding! Milk puddings play a rich part in Turkey's food culture and date back to the Ottoman empire where puddings were often made with shredded chicken and cornflour. This tradition has continued and we eat a chicken and milk pudding called kazandibi and sütlaç, a milky rice pudding from a restaurant that's famous for their puddings. Finally we head for one of our favourite Turkish meals- meze! Mezze is made up of a number of small savoury plates- both hot and cold which you graze on as you drink. We order raki- Turkey's national spirit and share a number of small plates from hamsi (anchovies) to dips.
