Merely one-year after PN in the power, rifts began to appear among Umno and Bersatu. Despite facing objections from some party leaders, Umno President Zahid Hamidi recently announced the party's stance to not work with Bersatu in the next general election. Analysts pointed out that since the two parties are eyeing for voters and seats from a similar demographic in the next general election, their alliance is destined to be vulnerable.

Bersatu, which is now wielding major power in the government, is also threatening Umno's position as the main Malay rights defender. PAS meanwhile, settles with playing the role of a mediator between Umno and Bersatu, with the hope that a weak Bersatu in power will benefit PAS during seat negotiations for the upcoming GE.

With each party having different agendas, the majority of the Malay voters that Kinitv spoke to in different places in the Peninsular Malaysia, including Petaling Jaya and Sepang of Selangor, as well as Kedah, expressed their hope for all three Malay parties in finding a way to work together, as they believe that will benefit them the most.
