If you love coffee and live in China, then Merry early Christmas because Starbucks is opening its largest store on the planet in Shanghai. The doors to the coffee castle will open on December 6th and let me tell you, this isn’t your average starbucks. It has the longest bar of any Starbucks store spanning 88 feet, the ceiling is made up of 10,000 handmade wooden tiles inspired by espresso machines, a full blown bakery, a Teavana bar, and an augmented reality tour.
In case you’re like ‘what the heck is an augmented reality tour,’ customers will be able to point their phones at various points around the store which will give them an AR tour about how coffee is made. You can also apparently unlock virtual badges which has officially convinced me that we’re living in the future. Oh and did I mention there will be a filter you can use to commemorate your visit? They thought of everything.
Naturally with a store this epic, you know the beverage options are going to be wild. The menu includes brews from exotic beans and nitrogen infused tea. I don’t know what nitrogen infused tea will do to me but I want it. The managing director at Wedbush Securities is totally amped about this store opening in China saying QUOTE – “China is such an opportunity. The return on investment is twice as high than anywhere else in the world, including the U.S. The cost of construction is lower and the (profit) margins are a little higher."
China already has more than 3,000 Starbucks stores and Shanghai specifically has 600 so whats another 30,000 sqaure feet am I right? Just to give you a frame of reference of how insane that is, the flagship Seattle Roastery is HALF that size. That’s wild. You mean to tell me I can get coffee very comfortably with all that personal space AND get a tour of how the coffee I’m drinking is made? That’s pretty dope.
What do you guys think about this Starbucks that’s probably bigger than your school and office building combined? Let us know in the comment section below and then click right over here for details on a new Cheesecake Factory creamer. I’m your host Drew Dorsey and I’ll see you later.
