The whole purpose of unveiling the new updates on the streaming service is to expand the audience of YouTube Live broadcasters, and keep viewers further engaged even after broadcasts have ended.
In fact, one of the most interesting new features is the chat replay update. When a user re-watches a live stream that has finished, they can also re-experience the live chat that happened alongside it while the stream played.
But that’s not all – for live broadcasts in English, YouTube is launching automatic captions, where the company’s Artificial Intelligence will analyze the speech to produce captions in real time. The feature is set to roll out in the coming weeks, and although they may not be as accurate as professionally provided captions, they have the potential to make some live streams more accessible to hearing-impaired viewers.
And starting today, creators will also be able to add location tags to their live streams. This will help users better locate live events near them by filtering search results by location or by clicking the location tag on one video to explore other videos with the same tag.
Or, you know, just further perfecting the Internet’s already FBI-level stalking skills.
And finally, YouTube is also extending its Super Chat feature, which allows a live-stream viewer to pay to make sure their message is highlighted for the broadcaster.
I gotta say, this is some diehard fan dedication right here, to actually fork up the cash to make themselves seen, but by all means, a girl’s gotta eat!
Although Super Chats used to be only available for Android and desktop users, now iPhone and iPad owners can get on the fun. It's also now possible to set up IOT devices to enable Super Chat messages. And for anyone, who is completely unaware of what the heck and IOT device, is so was I until Google came in with the assist.
Let’s just say, things like a light switch, your coffee makers, and/or a refrigerator may soon be able to fire off a specific Super Chat – don’t ask me why, I’m just the messenger.
Alright, so that’s enough tech talk for one day, so right now, I gotta know all your thoughts on YouTube Live’s new updates – are you into these, or are you like me and hate change (YEAH, still talking to you Snapchat)? Share all your thoughts down here in the comments, and after that, be sure to click right over here to see what Snapchat’s CEO had to say about the redesign outrage.
