Zendaya is continuing to make waves in the world of acting, but you may want to think twice before asking her about new music any time soon...
What’s up guys, it’s your host Emile Ennis Jr. back here on Clevver News, and if there’s anything I’ve ever been sure of, like EVER, it’s that Zendaya continues to make strides in literally every aspect of of her life: television, movies, fashion, philanthropy, using her platform for good and not evil; let’s face it: the girl is basically an Oprah in the making.
But if there’s one thing Zendaya seems to be putting on the backburner, it’s her music career, this according to her major truth bombs in her most recent interview with Paper Magazine.
As Z is currently preparing for the release her upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home and her highly anticipated HBO series Euphoria, she revealed that she’s finally ready to kiss her music career goodbye, and for pretty good reasons.
She said QUOTE, “I think the music industry takes a little bit of passion away from you. It sucks you dry a little bit. What I thought I wanted, it’s not what I want anymore, especially when I think about what I had to deal with in the music industry.”
Although not many other details were revealed about exactly what she went through, Zendaya alluded to contracts being one of the issues and even issued a warning for up-and-coming musicians. She said QUOTE, “If anyone asks my number one advice, for the entertainment industry in general but mostly the music industry, it’s look over those contracts, every single word, and don’t sign anything that isn’t worth it to you. You are worth more than they will say that you are.”
Although she may have had to learn those lessons the hard way, Z has grown immensely from both her Disney days and television as she transitioned from contributing vocals to Kidz Bop, to her days as Bella Thorne’s costar in Disney’s Shake It Up! and finally starring in major Hollywood box office hits like Marvel’s Spiderman and The Greatest Showman.
So yeah, it’s no question Z is a straight-up stud, but underneath it all, she’s just a normal young 20-something trying to navigate life, like the rest of us. She stressed the importance of being open about mental health and has her peers to thank for keeping her head up.
She said quote, “I think definitely there's been, at least amongst my peers, a certain emphasis on not just mental health but self-care and opening up to other experiences. That, in turn, makes you feel like you're not alone if you are dealing with it. It makes you feel heard and not so isolated.”
And although she admits to having good days and bad days (don’t we all…), we’ve gotta praise Zendaya for staying so grounded and a true role model to us all. So you’ve heard it all from her, and now I want to turn it over to you guys -- I wanna know what you thought about Zendaya’s interview with Paper Magazine and which of her quotes shocked you the most.
