Zendaya Reveals REAL Reason She Returned To Disney Channel

Zendaya revealed that she was shocked that she landed the role of Michelle in Spiderman because she didn’t expect them to go with an actress of color.
Zendaya said she was pleasantly surprised that they casted the best people for the roles instead of what’s most like the comic book.
In a recent interview with Variety, Zendaya revealed that she really didn’t think she would land her role in Spiderman Homecoming saying QUOTE - "A lot of time, the thought process of an actor of color is, I'm going to go and give it my best shot, but they are probably not going to go with an actor of color for this. We all think it. I didn't know they were going to switch up the characters and really cast the best people for the roles, instead of what's most like the comic book. I think that was the coolest part for me, knowing they embraced the diversity."
Zendaya also revealed that one of the main conditions she had upon returning to Disney Channel after Shake It Up, was creating a show with more diversity. She returned to Disney for K.C Undercover but made sure the network made her a producer where she then demanded the show portray a badass female protagonist. She told Variety QUOTE - "When I left Disney, there weren't any families of color on the channel. I thought that was a big reason why I wanted to come back. I think I’ve successfully made a show that not only allows for representation but sees girls in a powerful and strong position."
