改教争议一直不断，联邦法院如今在英迪拉争子案中一致裁决，孩子改教须获双亲联合同意，不得单方替孩子改教。
联邦法院也判定，民事法庭（civil court）有权审理新教徒注册局（Registrar of Muallafs）的案件，包括伊斯兰改教争议。
这与联邦法院在2007年的苏巴斯尼案（R Subashini case）案的判决迥异。当时，前联邦法院法官聂哈欣（Nik Hashim Nik Abdul Rahman）裁定，父亲可单方面替孩子改教。
