Want to know how to make a Disney nerd’s head explode? Put as many princesses and superheroes in one place as you can.
I mean Moana hanging out with Jasmine, Thanos facing off with Iron Man, literally, my life is officially complete.
Some of the biggest – and I mean biggest movie news of the year was revealed this past weekend and it all happened in one place: at D23. While many fans were super excited about A Wrinkle in Time along with the official teaser trailer that was dropped for the movie.
As excited as everyone was for the children’s classic turned movie with the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Chris Pine, just to name a few, I think it’s safe to say everyone collectively lost their minds when not one, not two, but literally all of the animated Disney princesses got together on stage to announce their roles in Wreck It Ralph 2.
Although the epic photo at D23 consisted of the respective actresses who voice Belle, Pocahontas, Jasmine, Ariel, Rapunzel, Moana, Anna, Merida, Tiana, and Vanellope von Schweetz, it was revealed that Elsa, Auroa, Cinderella, as well as many others – like characters from Star Wars will also appear in the upcoming film.
In other Wreck It Ralph 2 related news, Taraji P Henson will also be joining the cast as a brand new character named Yessss. So to sum it all up, everyone and their mothers will be appearing in this new film.
The long awaited sequel to the Pixar film, The Incredibles, was also introduced at D23 and here’s what we know so far. Although it’s been an INCREDIBLY long time since the first movie was released – 13 years to be exact -- Incredibles 2 is set to take place right after the first one.
The movie’s new director hinted that there’s some sort of camping trip involved in the film. Those who were in attendance for this panel got to see a short as well as a mini sneak peek of the film and we all finally got to see what Jack Jack is capable of and let me tell you, he’s capable of a LOT. He’s probably the coolest member of the family, to be honest.
And now, the Star Wars news you’ve all been waiting for…you’re gonna have to wait just a little longer. Details about ‘The Last Jedi’ have been kept on the downlow, but Disney did release some behind-the-scenes footage to give fans SOMETHING to hold them over.
Another HUGE reveal from the weekend came from the Avengers Infinity War panel. Those who were lucky enough to be in the room got to see a very exclusive trailer for the upcoming film and it was pretty wild.
There was definitely a lot happening in the trailer, but the three biggest takeaways that fans can expect are Doctor Strange fighting alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy and Iron Man on an alien planet, Captain America sporting a beard all while looking like he’s been through a lot, and Loki causing destruction on Earth – but what’s new?
Disney also released some big news about the sequel to Frozen. “Frozen 2” is set to be released on November 27th, 2019, which means we all have to wait two more years until it comes out BUT, luckily enough, the movie Coco will feature a 20ish minute featurette titled Olaf’s Frozen Adventure to hold us all over until then.
I know that’s a lot of information, but bear with me because there’s just a couple more I need to talk about! Because like I said earlier, a lot happened over the weekend!
Toy Story 4 was given a release date, it will premiere on June 21st, 2019 so we can relive our childhoods on that very day. A sequel to Mary Poppins is currently in the works. It’s starring Emily Blunt as Mary and Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack.
And in new live-action movie news, The Nutcracker – starring Misty Copeland – will be coming to theaters November 2018 and Tim Burton’s remake of Disney’s Dumbo will fly into theatres March 29, 2019. It was also confirmed that Colin Farrell, Eva Green, Danny DeVito, and Michael Keaton will star in the live-action remake of Dumbo.
WHEW, that was A LOT. But now that I’ve laid everything out on the line for you, which of these things are you most excited for? I honestly can’t wait for ___!
