They have directed fans to their website where fans are met with a static tv screen displaying news coverage all over the world about a strange symbol that is mysteriously appearing everywhere. And fans are freaking out.
The root of the freak out was a tweet by 5SOS that said – “ATTENTION: PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT This is not a drill!!”followed by their website and the hashtag, 5 on the wall.
So naturally, fans are flocking to the website and are met with a static screen that then displays news coverage about a mysterious symbol that is popping up all over the world that shows a broken white and yellow heart held together by a single safety pin.
First of all, great marketing. It’s very creative. But what the heck does it mean? There’s a timer at the bottom counting down to tell us when the real announcement will be happening but in the meantime, we freak out.
And because the announcement leaves so many questions unanswered, fans are cooking up a butt ton of theories as to what it could all mean. Some are guessing that the broken heart could be new cover art, others are speculating that the safety pin could be the name of a new song, and then some are thinking that maybe the #5OnTheWall could be the name of the new single. Basically everyone is lost and having a lot of fun trying to find the answers.
One fan has gone as far as cracking the binary code on the 5 on the wall html which apparently translates to “My neighbor told me that I got bad brains” so people are speculating that these could be the lyrics to a new song. Which is some next level, Nancy Drew kind of investigating. 5SOS fans are not messing around. So the mystery continues but according to the countdown on the 5SOS website, we will find out more on Wednesday at 130 pm Eastern time.
