5 Seconds of Summer is returning to its roots as band -- the dudes of 5SOS just released a new cover of Green Day's legendary song "American Idiot." Here's a quick listen:
The full track is available thanks to Kerrang Magazine -- the mag got together 15 bands to cover songs from Green Day. And guys, 5SOS is in some pretty stellar company for this cover fest -- other bands on the rundown include: Escape the Fate, You Me at Six, Bowling for Soup, and even former My Chemical Romance guitarist Frank Iero. People out there who are still calling 5 Seconds of Summer a boyband will definitely be convinced otherwise after hearing this song because they definitely do it justice. Asthon hit the official 5SOS twitter to say "So we covered American idiot  Go give it a listen and rock out." Ashton's drum solos on the American idiot cover are getting a ton of rave reviews, and to be clear all of the lads nailed their performances on this cover track. As I already mentioned 5SOS got its start by posting youtube covers. Here's a quick look at a few fan favorites:
That was a little Chris Brown/Justin Bieber, One Direcion, Adele action for you. As you can see, 5SOS has diverse taste when it comes to covering songs, and we can't get enough. Obviously, we love their original music, but if you had to pick a song for them to cover, what would you choose? I think it would be cool to hear them take on Drake or maybe Beyonce -- I'd love to hear what they do with one of those songs. What do you guys think?
