Anwar: PN's fanfare over economic performance is misleading

Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim believes that the PN government's claims about the Malaysian economy have been debunked by the World Bank.

Anwar explained that the World Bank's report published yesterday revised Malaysia's GDP growth to just 4.5%, down from 6%. He elaborated that this is due to the lack of structural reform and inefficient strategy in tackling the Covid-19 pandemic.

Malaysia has been in a 'total lockdown' since the beginning of June 2021 after recording over 9,000 daily cases of Covid-19 at the end of May. Only essential businesses are allowed to operate during this lockdown.
