Ariana Grande Dissed By Bette Midler for Being Too Sexy?

It seems like just about everyone has an opinion when it comes to Ariana Grande these days and while it might be par for the course for people to both openly praise and bash the hottest artists in the world (and for the record I think Ariana has handled her celebrity status with grace) – I do think this latest diss is probably going to hurt because it comes from the legendary Bette Midler. During an interview with the Telegraph in the UK, Midler was asked about the pornification of pop music – translation: she was asked about her opinions on everything in pop being about sex, and she said this QUOTE: It’s terrible! It’s always surprising to see someone like Ariana Grande with that silly high voice, very wholesome voice, slithering around on a couch looking so ridiculous.” Then the entertainer added that she thinks it’s silly, saying that maybe Ariana’s manager is telling her to do it, because QUOTE “sex sells. Sex has always sold.” OUCH. It was interesting that Ariana was made the example here, only because in comparison with pretty much every other female pop artist out there right now, she keeps it classy even in her sexy moments. So maybe this is in some way a sort of compliment from Bette Midler because why would she say this if she didn’t like Ariana’s voice. And let’s be honest, Ariana’s voice can stand on it’s own 2 feet – I think she’d be star even if we all kept our eyes closed? Right? But To finish off this topic Bette Midler did make a good general point though – her advice after decades in the business is this: Trust your talent. You don’t have to make a whore out of yourself to get ahead. You really don’t. Some frank words of wisdom from the 68 year old veteran.
