Holy music video drama! Avril Lavigne releases her newest 'Hello Kitty' vid and some people are NOT happy about it! Why you ask? Let's break it down!
So it's safe to say the internet is NOT a fan of Av's newest release -- in fact if you blinked you may have missed it because shortly after it went public it was yanked from YouTube! Yowza! So why all the dramz? Well it seems as though the asian-themed clip drew complaints for what some dubbed its fetishization of Japanese Culture. Here's a little peek:
And let me tell you, press outlets are not being kind about it, in fact Billboard called the 'Train wreck' video 'Unseemly" "an embarrassment in any language."
Entertainment Weekly suggested there are: "serious questions about whether it's offensive or offensively obvious."
E! Online wrote: "the video as a whole is unfortunate and the only explanation that would make sense to all of this is if Lavigne was playing a joke on all of us."
