Noh Omar, who had served as the Tanjong Karang MP for six terms since 1995, was not appointed to defend this seat in this election. Many of Umno’s grassroot members have openly expressed grievances against the decision, so much so that a Tanjong Karang Umno division committee member, Mohd Rosmi Mastol entered the contest as an independent to protest.
