Bruno Mars is spilling all the tea this morning, revealing what it’s really like to work with Adele and his big plans to go up from ‘Uptown Funk’.
Adele may have all had us at ‘Hello’ but it seems as though Bruno wasn’t quite convinced at first…
If you thought you’d never in a million years hear the words ‘Adele’ and ‘diva’ grouped in the same sentence, well, things are about to change. Bruno Mars has been busy celebrating the success of his new comeback single “24K Magic” while also promoting his new album, when he sat down with New York radio station segment Cubby & Carolina in the Morning to chat about the single, his current success, and working with other big names.
The Adele truth bomb came out like word vomit shortly after Bruno praised her for being an incredible artist, recalling a time when QUOTE, “There was a moment when she was singing in the booth — and I’m not exaggerating at all — and the water was vibrating… like, you know that scene in Jurassic Park … She’s got some pipes on her, and she’s just a superstar.” He then joked that Adele not only used her pipes for recording their co-written song “All I Ask” off of her 25 album, but for letting everyone know just who’s boss.
Bruno also graces the cover of Rolling Stone’s most recent issue, and elaborates on the two butting heads in the studio, saying QUOTE, “We were aiming for that big, diva, ballad thing – that’s what I envisioned. But ‘lovers’? I don’t know if anybody really says ‘lovers.’ ‘Yeah, we’re lovers.’ ‘This is my lover.’ I was like, ‘Should we rethink that?’ But Adele was so gangster about it. She was like, ‘Nope. That’s what it has to be.’”
After a while, he recalled finally coming to his senses, admitting that Adele had been right all along, saying, “It’s this grand word that makes the song bigger because no one says it. It’s not ‘what boyfriends-and-girlfriends do’ – it’s this over-the-top ‘lovers.’ Sometimes I play it on the piano, and I look forward to singing that part. It’s f*cking perfect…”
So if there’s any mystery as to whether or not Bruno would sign on to work with Adele in the future, don’t worry, he is fully on board, and clearly still a big fan after performing a stunning cover of “All I Ask” in BBC Radio’s Live Lounge just this week.
Bruno did reveal one thing he’s been unsure about in recent months, which was topping his Diamond-certified single “Uptown Funk.” He said QUOTE, “Coming off the biggest song of my career, it was super-daunting to come in here. I don’t know if people are going to love this sh*t. I don’t know if radio is going to play it. But what I don’t want to have happen is I put it out and say, ‘Damn it, if I’d just done this and this, maybe it would have had a shot.’”
With the overnight success of “24K Magic”, I’m thinkin’ he’ll be just fine, but right now I want to know all your thoughts on Bruno and Adele’s minor spat, and let me know what you thought of his Adele cover, and you can do all that right down here in the comments.
