The first video in our huge Aotearoa New Zealand food series! We’re journeying from the top to the bottom of the country in a campervan, taking you into the heart of our nation’s phenomenal food culture.
In this first video of our New Zealand series we're catching and cooking outrageously good seafood . We kick off at the top of Te Ika-a-Māui, the North Island. We start at Cape Reinga, the upper most point of the North Island and venture to Spirits Bay to catch a fish to cook up. We constantly marvel over how we can wander to the beach and with a little luck and know-how, catch or gather enough food for a meal. Connecting with the land and the food it provides is an intrinsic part of Aotearoa New Zealand's food culture.
Thomas lands a kahawai which we fry up in the pan and serve with a kumara (sweet potato) and potato mash and green beans with toasted almonds. We also tuck into kina- native sea urchin, after some locals give us a few which they've collected around the rocks. Finally we introduce you to the Kiwi pie- one of New Zealand's favourite foods. This one is stuffed with creamed pāua (abalone)!

We’re Thomas and Sheena, food and travel fiends. We travel full time, hunting for the BEST local food in the world to showcase via our YouTube videos. Food is a window into a country's culture and one of the most exciting ways to get to know a place.
We're all about eating what and where the locals eat. You won't find food that's been created merely to be social media worthy on here- no rainbow bagels, gold leaf soft serves- just genuine, authentic food that tastes incredible.
From street food to mom and pop restaurants, we want to show you the best and most authentic food we find on our travels.
