Charlie Sheen has openly revealed that he is HIV-positive. He received the diagnosis about 4 years ago after being hospitalized for what the thought was a brain tumor, saying QUOTE “I thought it was over.” Then came the shocking news from his doctors. Sheen shared that QUOTE “It’s a hard three letters to absorb… It’s a turning point in one’s life.” Even today, Charlie shared that he does not know how contracted the virus.
Now he’s opening up in order to put an end to vicious rumors. He told Matt Lauer that he has QUOTE “been the victim of betrayal and extortion” and what he says are “horrible, mercurial stories about me threatening the health of so many others.” After sharing his diagnosis with a few people he thought he could trust, he said he has been threatened and forced to pay millions of dollars in order to keep his HIV diagnosis a secret. Those people who have since betrayed Charlie include women who the actor engaged in sexual behaviors with following his diagnosis.
Charlie went on to say that he has had unprotected sex with two people following his diagnosis, but that those two people were QUOTE “under the care of my doctor and they were completely warned ahead of time.” In fact, Charlie assured Lauer that anybody who he has had sexual encounters with was aware of his diagnosis, and that he has not transmitted the HIV virus to anybody.
Charlie Sheen’s doctor also joined him in his interview to confirm that Charlie, although HIV-positive, does not have AIDS.
Charlie shed some positivity about the current state of his health saying QUOTE "I have a responsibility now to better myself and to help a lot of other people and hopefully with what we're doing today others will come forward and say, 'Thanks, Charlie.” He went on to add "If there was one guy on this planet to contract this that's going to deliver a cure, it's me. It's me. Seriously."
