Cheryl Cole and Liam Payne announced their breakup on Sunday, and despite both assuring fans that they still have love for each other as a family and respect one another, UK tabloids rushed to find someone to blame for the split. And the person they chose to get the pitchforks out for? Cheryl’s mom, Joan.
Multiple British tabloids pointed the blame at Joan, including the Daily Mail. The outlet reported one source’s claim that QUOTE, “Cheryl’s mum is part of the problem. She indulges her behaviour and never reprimands her. Instead, Joan will make everyone around Cheryl tow the line...Although Liam initially got on with Cheryl’s mother, in the end he felt that her mum was too much in the way – it was always two against one.”
Cheryl took to twitter to slam the reports that her mother was the reason for the split, sharing a statement that read QUOTE, “I hate responding to stuff esp at such difficult times but i cannot sit here and listen to such nasty, false articles regarding my mam. I don't know why they involve her in stories about me. i can assure you she absolutely nothing to do with any of it. I am a grown woman who is capable of dealing with my own life. She is a soft and kind woman who doesn't deserve to be dragged into something that has nothing whatsoever to do with her."
And Liam clearly agrees with the statement, as evidenced by his liking the Tweet.
As if it isn’t already tough enough to go through a break up, to then have to defend your own mom to the world?! That can’t be easy. Hopefully Cheryl’s statement will shut up any further rumors around her mom’s involvement in the breakup, but if it doesn’t, we’re sure Liam will be standing by to defend Cheryl, Joan, and anyone else the tabloids try to go after as a result of the amicable split.
