Manaweblife continues with another video at the World Indigenous Art Festival 2018 in Shah Alam with a rhythmic dance from Thailand. This dance is from the folks of north east or Isan province and is named “The Coconut Shell Dance” ! In Thai it is called Serng Krapo and it is believed that the one who cracks the coconut shell during the dance shall get married.Hence you will noticed that the dance is performed by both males and females. The fun nature of this dance is accompanied by the rhythmic sounds of the xylophone called pong lang to captivate the cracking sounds from the coconut shells. This coconut dance is amongst the many ethnic dances that the Isan province is famous for. Various versions of this coconut shell dance is also seen in the ethnic communities of Cambodia and even as far as the Philippines.
