The Malaysia-Singapore Coffee Shop Proprietors' General Association (MSCSPGA), Malaysian-Muslim Restaurant Owners Association (PRESMA) and Malaysian-Indian Restaurant Owners Association (PRIMAS) today called a combined press conference to voice their opposition to the Health Ministry's recent announcement banning smoking within 10 feet of any coffee shop or eatery in Malaysia.
MSCSPGA group chairperson Ho Su Mong highlighted the announcement by Deputy Health Minister Dr Lee Boon Chye on the matter, responding that this deprives them of making their own business decisions.
Ho suggested that instead, the government should allocate smoking zones or "cubicles" in restaurants as imposing an outright ban will not solve the problem.
