A new episode of the CW’s hit show Arrow premiered last night and SPOILER ALERT: All arrows pointed to Colton Haynes’ permanent departure from the show.
That’s right guys, it’s officially official: Colton Haynes’ character Roy Harper, AKA Arsenal, will not be returning to the show after his dramatic departure on last night’s episode, BUT it was all for a good cause. In the episode, Roy posed as Arrow and turned himself in to protect Oliver Queen, played by Stephen Amell, before staging his own death in prison and escaping, which ultimately led to his decision to leave Team Arrow and driving off into the darkness. Take a look:
Although Colton’s exit came as a shock to viewers, Arrow’s executive producer Greg Berlanti revealed that it was planned since he signed on, saying QUOTE, “We made a two-season deal that had a clock on it. When he was coming off Teen Wolf, we described the role to him, what we were looking for, and we agreed he would do it for a couple of years. He brought a lot of notoriety and viewership to the show when we were growing, and the show wouldn’t be the show it is without him. We are sad to see him go but excited to see what he does next.”
And not only will viewers have to get used to the rest of the show sans-Roy, but Stephen Amell took to Twitter to say that the show will be different from now on saying, QUOTE, “Terrific episode of #Arrow tonight. Filming the finale now. Everything changed after tonight's ep. Enjoy!”
But to shed a little light on the situation, I DO have some good news! The show’s other exec producer Marc Guggenheim also commented saying he hopes Colton will continue to be part of the universe they are building and that he was such a joy to work with. And as for a possible return of Roy, all “Arrows” are pointing to YES! Marc also revealed that QUOTE, “We’ve talked to him about returning to one of the three shows, and if available, he has expressed interest. He is gone but definitely not forever.” FINGERS CROSSED GUYS!!
So if you tuned into last night’s episode, how shocked were you at Roy’s exit, but if you didn’t have time to tune in yet, I am sorry in advance for spoiling it for you, buuut duty calls!
