Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said contract doctors was a normal occurrence but the government should give them permanent posts after they have served for a certain period of time.

Mahathir added that the the issue was not a problem during his administration as well as former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak's.

He said it was a problem now as the doctors had been there for a long time and they felt that the have not been treated well by the government.
