Dr Mahathir: The rulers can't meddle in politics

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said it is perfectly fine for the Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar to host Umno and Pakatan Harapan leaders at separate private Hari Raya Aidilfitri events.
“If he wants to invite (them) for Hari Raya to dine with them, then it is okay.
“But I do not think he wants to become a politician because the rulers cannot intervene in politics,” he said.
This comes after the ruler feted Johor Umno leaders to a Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at the Istana Pasir Pelangi in Johor Bahru on Saturday.
Sources told Malaysiakini it was the first time that Sultan Ibrahim had held an open house just for Umno invitees.
The sultan also held a separate event for state Bersatu chiefs on Monday.
