My original plan was to visit 2 or 3 malls in Jakarta as I have heard that there are some excellent malls in Jakarta. It is very similar to the city I live, Kuala Lumpur, in that it is famous for it's abundance of excellent and varied malls.
First I went to Grand Indonesia Mall. Grand Indonesia Mall is one of the biggest malls in Jakarta, if not Indonesia. It is HUGE. It is so big it has a East Mall and a West Mall. I explored it a bit but was asked to stop recording by security and I respected their wishes.
After Grand Indonesia Mall, I visited Plaza Indonesia, which is just across the road from it. It is a more upmarket, premium mall that caters to luxury brand shoppers and had a lot of the main luxury brands in it. It was a nice mall and had a good food floor at the bottom of it.
I then jumped in a Grab Car to Plaza Senayan. This was about 15-20 minutes drive. It was a very interesting mall as it seemed older but was very classy in how it looked and kept in immaculate condition. It has a famous clock in the middle of it and a little show that plays from the clock at certain times. Again, it had a MASSIVE food court which was packed as I visited at lunch time.
I walked outside a noticed a mall that I hadn't planned to go to across the road from Plaza Senayan which was called Senayan City. I am so glad I visited it as it was awesome. It was huge inside and seemed very modern and futuristic. It's main area is a huge open space that is filled with lights from all the floors of shops.
I then took a short walk to another mall that was close by called Ratu Plaza. This was an older mall and seemed to cater mainly to electronics and house goods. It was quite small so I wasn't there for too long.
Walking further down the road, I then visited FX Mall. This seemed relatively new again and again was very futuristic looking with a lot of bright lights and nice architecture. It also had a lot of nice places to eat and a lot of cuisines.
Lastly I visited Plaza Semanggi. Again, this seemed like an older mall and mainly sold Batik and food. I bought myself a really nice Batik shirt from here for 80,000 Rupiah and was very happy with it.
It was a long day walking around many malls in Jakarta but it was nice to see every type from old to new.
