Friends fans are in for a real treat as the beloved sitcom is coming back in the form of a Broadway musical, and as the ever-so-unforgettable Janice would say – OH. MY. GOD.
Today’s episode is brought to you by the Un-carrier®. With T-Mobile ONE™, get all unlimited, all in!
So maybe no one told you life was gonna be this way, but if this means we’ll be getting more Friends, could we BE any more excited?!
It’s been over 13 years since America’s favorite comedy sitcom aired its final emotional episode, but now fans of the show will be able to remember the inseparable six in a whole new way… so I guess you could say the show was… on a break?
Still too soon? The crew is coming back to the city for a new production to be called Friends! The Musical, which is being described as an unofficial musical parody of the iconic sitcom that is set to debut off-Broadway in New York this fall. The play, which is being written by Bob and Tobly McSmith, will be hosted at the Triad Theatre, and to give you a little background on this duo’s past work experience, they are the brains behind past musical parodies of Saved by the Bell and Full House, so I think it’s safe to say we’re in pretty good hands.
Tobly gushed about the musical to Entertainment Weekly, saying QUOTE, “Could we BE more excited about the chance to parody such an important TV show?! It only makes sense to set our sights on the hit TV show Friends after creating parody musicals about Saved by the Bell, Full House, and Beverley Hills, 90210. Not only do we poke fun and celebrate the show, we also get some jokes in about the actor's lives.”
He also mentioned that some of the show’s other beloved characters will be making their grand return to the city, and YES, Smelly Cat is most definitely included. He said, “There will be a smelly cat, there will be Janice, and there will be Fat Monica. We want all the alumni of Friends to come to the show and possibly be in it for a night or two — our first call is to the agent of Marcel the Monkey.”
The crew was also able to recycle some of the show’s original songs, but as for new material, a performance called “How You Doing, Ladies?” will be sung by Joey, naturally, while Ross and Rachel will be tag-teaming a performance called, “Will They or Won’t They.” And we just can’t forget about Janice original act called, “Oh. My. God. It’s Janice!”
Being a die-hard Friends fanatic myself, hearing this news is like Phoebe’s music to my ears, so I’m gonna need a sec to catch my breath or like do a quick happy dance or something…
Phew, glad I got that out of my system, but while no official date for the premiere has been announced, tickets are scheduled to go on sale as early as June, so save up, Friends! But right now, I’m dying to know all your thoughts on the all-new Friends production, so get to talking right down here in the comments, and as always, don’t forget to subscribe! Thanks for watching Clevver News, I’m your host Meghan Lamontagne and I’ll see you next time.
