I’ve gotta hand it to Miley Cyrus’ and her witty commentary, because after her epic performance last night, there really is nothing that says TURNT like Hailee Steinfeld.
In her first-ever live performance of her chart-topping new single “Love Myself,” Hailee graced the 5th annual Streamy Awards stage in a skin-tight body suit, vocals hit to perfection and more love for herself than we really know what to do with… Take a look:
Prior to the release of her own single, Hailee started off acting and got the best of both worlds as the newbie Barden Bella starring in Pitch Perfect 2, where she showed off her soft vocals that surprised us all, but now the burning question remains… is Hailee’s next step going to be ditching the big screen for a solo career?
She revealed during an interview that QUOTE, “Someone asked: ‘Are you a singer or an actor?’ I didn’t know how to answer because I was almost insulted anybody would make me choose. But my answer is ... both.” So this good news means that we can definitely look forward to Hailee taking on many more movie roles while kick-starting her music career, and hey, maybe we’ll get the best of both worlds too and watch her slay even more musical movie roles too.
BUT going back to her first single “Love Myself”, let’s discuss the elephant in the room now, shall we? If you’ve done your research and studied the lyrics to the song, you might have found yourself wondering if Hailee knew exactly what she was singing about…
Some of the lyrics to the song may have stuck you as an innuendo for umm, physically pleasing yourself, however you choose to take that, saying, “I'm gonna put my body first and love me so hard 'til it hurts, I know how to scream out the words.” I’ll just let you use your imagination on that one, but thankfully, Hailee is aware of the innuendo and said, “The song is about taking care of yourself, whether that means physically, emotionally or with material things. There’s power in being able to provide for yourself. Being able to say, ‘I love myself’ -- it’s revolutionary in a way.”
And if the lyrics aren’t enough of a giveaway, Hailee is also aware that the music video for “Love Myself” is another indication of the act of physical love, as she dances around in a body suit that says, “Self Service.” But that didn’t stop Hailee who mentioned, “Regardless of how people interpret this, I have nothing to be ashamed of.”
Well, there you have it. And now that that’s all cleared up, I am very curious to see what you think about Hailee’s new single and her first-ever performance of it during the Streamy Awards, so since there’s apparently no thought that’s off limits for this subject, go ahead and get to talking right down here in the comments section. After that, switch things up completely by clicking over here to watch us get all debatable over the best Disney Channel TV show.
