Hailey Bieber may seem like she’s had an easy road to success in the modeling industry, but no path is perfect. Even she’s struggled with comparing herself to her best friends, like Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid.
What’s up y’all? It’s Emile Ennis Jr. here with Clevver News and even Hailey Bieber has felt insecure when surrounded by supermodels. Hailey recently opened up about how she felt “inferior” to her model friends like Kendall Jenner and Gigi and Bella Hadid in the early days of her career.
She spoke to Vogue Australia in her October cover story and said quote, “My burn in the modeling industry has been slow and I’ve had to learn to be okay with that. I’m shorter than most of the girls. Even though I’m five-foot-eight, I’m not a runway girl and I totally used to feel inferior to some of my friends. Look at Kendall and Bells and Gigi…they’re all tall and doing every runway.”
And Hailey also revealed that she even had industry professionals tell her that she wouldn’t make it as a model. She continued on and said quote, “For a while, there was a part of me that didn’t know if I could have the career I wanted if I couldn’t do runway. I had so many people, like casting directors, say: ‘We don’t think she’s a real model.’”
And while she admitted this kind of feedback was disappointing, it didn’t stop Hailey. I mean we all know this isn’t even her first time covering Vogue. She’s been on the cover multiple times, so if that doesn’t say high fashion model, I don’t know what does.
She’s been on the cover of Vogue Japan, Vogue Mexico, and we all remember her epic US Vogue cover with her hubby Justin Bieber.
But Hailey had to find her own path in the industry off the runway. While she has walked in some runway shows for designers like Jeremy Scott, Off-White, and Tommy Hilfiger, she’s found her niche in another area of the industry.
Hailey explained that quote, “I don’t look short in photos. I’m proud of myself for building a more commercial career that worked for me and being confident about it. I’ve hosted a show, I did major American campaigns, and a bunch of other things that I’ve really enjoyed. Sometimes I feel like I’m still finding my lane, but now I know I’m going in the right direction.”
Hailey even hinted earlier this summer that she may be retiring from runways all together.
She posted a somewhat cryptic message on her Instagram Story with pic of herself walking in a 2018 fashion show.
Along with the pic she wrote quote, “What I do know, is that ur arm truly should never swing this high when ur walking on a runway.. hence why it is not, and will never be my thing again lol
