News of Harry Styles declining the role of Prince Eric in Disney’s live action ‘Little Mermaid’ hit us like a ton of bricks, but now we’re finally getting an explanation for his shocking decision, annnnd you might actually be ok with it…
What’s up guys and happy Monday, it’s Emile Ennis Jr. back here on Clevver News, and we’ve had a few weeks to mourn what could’ve been the British hunk that is Harry Styles ultimately falling for the half-fish, half-woman of his dreams in the live action adaption of “The Little Mermaid”, but here we are again… only this time with a sensible explanation.
After it was confirmed that Harry had officially passed on the role just a few weeks ago, and that it was totally his decision and not anybody else’s, the rest of us ‘poor unfortunate souls’ were left with no answers and broken hearts because he was basically born to play a prince, but it’s fine, we’re fine.
In a recent interview with Face Magazine, he explained that his career focus was currently elsewhere, saying QUOTE, “I want to put music out and focus on that for a while.”
Fine, fiiiiine, I guess that’s acceptable. He went on to ease the blow by praising the current cast, saying, “Everyone involved in it was so amazing, so I think it’s going to be great. I’ll enjoy watching it, I’m sure.”
So there you have it… the only swimming that you’ll likely see Harry in is if you decide to watch his half-a-second appearance trying to stay afloat in Dunkirk… tbh, I’ll take what I can get at this point. BUT there is always a light at the end of the tunnel, and that light comes in the form of platinum new bangers, and very soon.
According to rock icon Stevie Nicks, who also recently spoke to Face Magazine, Harry’s new album is “spectacular.” She mentioned QUOTE, “It’s not like his last album. It’s not like anything One Direction ever did. It’s pure Harry, as Harry would say.” I also have no idea what that means, but if THE Stevie Nicks gives the seal of approval, then sign me up.
Although we’re still looking for our prince, thankfully, the Little Mermaid cast is already basically STACKED, with Grown-ish star Halle Bailey taking on the role of Ariel, along with Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Awkwafina as Scuttle, and Melissa McCarthy who is still playing coy about bringing the main sea witch, Ursula, to life. Like we said she is still not confirmed for the role, but it’s clear EVERYONE wants her to play Ursula. An amazing runner-up would be Lizzo in my opinion!
But for all you Hollywood hunks who are dying for the chance at the role of a lifetime under the sea, AKA let me fill you in on a little secret -- all you really gotta do is tweet Disney your resume and you might just score yourself an audition.
Ok, so it doesn’t really work that way, but it DID for 13 Reasons Why star Christian Navarro.
His wish might’ve just been Disney’s command after Christian tweeted about his interest in playing Prince Eric and literally used his 280-character tweet as an audition, crediting his 13 Reasons Why performance as Tony Padilla.
In his original tweet, he wrote, “So I heard Harry Styles passed on Prince Eric, well...I can sing. Black Ariel/Latino Prince...no ones called but Season 3 drops next week and I think it’s one hell of an audition @DisneyStudios @melissamccarthy”.
He then followed up his tweet by adding, “@DisneyStudios give it a shot why dontcha?”
Hey, shoot your shot, amiright?! Lo and behold, it seems as though Disney magic IS a real thing, as he updated fans with an audition status, writing, “IDK what happened to the other tweet. BUT @disney saw this, saw your support and gave my team a call. They wanted to see what I could do. Tapes sent. Fingers crossed. Let’s make some history. #iloveyou3000 #princeeric #thelittlemermaid”.
So although it’s very likely Disney is still in the early stages of auditions, Christian’s tweet did get him one step closer to rescuing his mermaid fin bride. But I just gotta throw this out there, in the event he doesn’t score the role, this goes out to Nick Jonas, Michael B. Jordan, Liam Hemsworth and/or Tom Holland, if you’re hearing this, help the fans out and GET TO TWEETING. Like I said, shooters shoot.
So right now, I gotta know all your thoughts on Harry’s reason why he won’t make all our Disney wishes come true as Prince Eric.
