Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid have just turned one homeless boy’s dreams into a reality after aspiring model John Economou opens up about being in the right place at the right time
He went from total beach bum to the next Balmain babe all thanks to Kendall and Gigi, who discovered the 20-year-old skater during a casual outing in Venice Beach. Talk about perfect timing.
John, who grew up in Milwaukee and worked on local TV commercials and catalogues as a kid, moved to California to start his career after dropping out of college, has yet to settle down, and spends his nights crashing at the beach or at friend’s homes. He travels with only a backpack full of two sets of clothes, his tooth brush and a skateboard, although, unlike the average homeless person, he does keep in contact with friends and family via his iPhone 6.
But the big break came knocking at his door, when Kendall and Gigi were filming a commercial shoot with pal Ansel Elgort in Venice Beach this past summer. They came across the 6-foot-3, brown eyed skater boy after he walked past them and their body guards. He recalls the first encounter with Kendall and Gigi saying, QUOTE, “It was a one in a billion chance meeting those girls. Right off the bat they mentioned I should do modeling. One of the girls said, ‘You’re cute.’ So I turned around and started conversation. They don’t have that rich-girl vibe.”
John also talked about how sweet they both were, saying, “Gigi was bubbly and funny. She was definitely more rambunctious. Kendall was more laid back, I can see a little hippie vibe.”
Kendall then suggested John try auditioning for male model gigs, and asked her manager to help sign him to Two Management in LA, where Kendall signed years ago. Although he credits Kendall and Gigi with kick-starting his career and thinks the supermodels are both “drop-dead gorgeous,” there won’t be any matches made in model Heaven any time soon. John hasn’t spoken to Kendall or Gigi since their summer encounter, and thinks he’s too young for them anyway, BUT he has been exchanging emails with Ansel “like bros.”
John hasn’t scored himself a fat check quite yet, he revealed that he’s been auditioning for jobs like crazy, so hey, we might be seeing him as the next Marky Mark in Calvin Klein sooner than you think!
