Umno vice-president Khaled Nordin has urged the Education Ministry to exhaust all possible alternatives before cancelling the Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and Pentaksiran Tingkatan Tiga (PT3) examinations.
"We must exhaust all methods and alternatives before we cancel UPSR and PT3. We need to accept the fact that even though the movement control order (MCO) has become the norm, education and evaluation is important in an education system."
Khaled suggested that the ministry looks at how other countries such as Germany, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan carried out major examinations in the midst of the Covid-19 outbreak.
